E3 Nintendo Esports Showcase
The Electronic Entertainment Expo, referred to shortly and more popularly as E3 for convenience, is one of the most significant gaming events. Until recently, every major game console has had its panel at the event, making several surprise announcements that have led to lots of hype and iconic moments. Some of the most notable panels over the years are Nintendo, which is always filled with unique fun.
The brand has showcased many great games and other announcements in E3, but perhaps one of the most notable of all has been their esports showcases at the Electronic Entertainment Expos of 2014 and 2018. Now that we’re approaching 2022, we look at how Nintendo may hold a similar showcase at the event.
How Nintendo Has Used E3 to Showcase its Esports Competitions
Super Smash Bros. is easily one of the most iconic game series of all time. It is so popular among casual players, those who take gaming more seriously, and even those who play them for a living on the biggest of all stages, pro esports tournaments. It is arguably Nintendo’s most popular game from an esports perspective, and every new installment has lots of hype behind it.
To make things all the more exciting and attract attention towards their latest title at that time, Nintendo held an Esports showcase in E3 2014, which was a full tournament for the new Super Smash Bros. game released for the WiiU. Something quite similar happened in 2018 as well. One of the most ambitious Nintendo games to date was announced; Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Known as SSBU for short, it is the biggest Smash Bros game to date when considering the roster and amount of features.
Nintendo held an esports showcase tournament in 2018 as well when this game was announced. But that wasn’t all, as there was also a tournament for the newly released (at that time) Splatoon 2. All of these showcases involving esports tournaments turned out to be very successful for Nintendo, as many were interested in them. In addition, they arguably played a part in boosting sales for the games being played.
While there isn’t any new Smash Bros game coming, at least not one that we know of, it is still possible we could see another esports showcase from Nintendo at the E3 event being held in 2022. That’s because the highly anticipated Splatoon 3 was just announced, which is another exclusive game for the brand that’s made quite some waves in the esports scene. For now, nothing is confirmed. But, it is more than possible that we could see another esports-focused showcase from Nintendo soon.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
