DC’s Black Spider vs. Marvel’s Spider-Man!
Black Spider was a character created by DC Comics in the 70s, and he is a vigilante with a knack for killing drug dealers but a tendency to go a bit insane, which has often led to him fighting Batman in Gotham. He has often been compared to everybody’s favorite spider character in the medium of comics, Spider-Man, due to his design and name, plus the fact that he was created by one of the iconic Spidey writers of the 70s, Gerry Conway.
Regardless, if there is one thing that comic book fans sure love is a discussion about who would win in a fight between two characters, it is the bread and butter of the fandom, and one of the things that help keep the medium alive and thriving, as it leads to a lot of fun discussions.
So, who would win in a battle between DC Comics’ Black Spider and Marvel Comics’ Spider-Man? We are going to find out right now. We will judge abilities, intellect, and physical strength for this battle. Whoever wins two out of three is the winner.
Let’s begin!
Abilities
In this section, we are going to focus on the area of abilities, which includes all the different powers that these characters can have. We will contrast and compare and see whose abilities would be a lot more helpful in this battle.
Let’s just state the obvious: Spider-Man wins this section with ease. There is no discussion or debate. While the Black Spider is a capable assassin and vigilante in his own right, he is just a man with all the limitations and weaknesses that entails.
On the other hand, Spider-Man has super strength and a higher level of endurance. He can stick to walls and shoot webs, making him a much deadlier foe to fight against. This is without mentioning his Spider-Sense, which gives him an edge if Black Spider tries to sneak up on him, thus eliminating the element of surprise.
Spider-Man can also move around with his webbing, making things a lot more difficult for Black Spider since he will have a more challenging time aiming with his guns and won’t be close enough for hand-to-hand combat, so his possibilities of hurting Spidey become slimmer.
There’s no debate here.
Winner: Spider-Man.
Intellect
Intellect doesn’t refer to how many math calculations they can make but to their capacity to strategize and develop plans and ideas that can lead them to victory. After all, if Batman can plan his way to victory in almost every situation, why these two shouldn’t?
However, things can be a bit trickier in this case since intellect can be interpreted in many different ways. We have seen Spider-Man devise many strategies and plans, mainly on the fly, to fight his adversaries. At the same time, Black Spider, being a top-level assassin, has shown the capacity to strategize and even go toe to toe, even for a moment, with the Dark Knight himself, Batman.
Both characters have shown that they are capable of being intelligent. While there is a solid argument to be made that Black Spider is more intelligent because he doesn’t have any powers to rely on, which would be a very fair assessment, Spider-Man also has to win in this section. And this is mainly to one reason: greater sample size.
We have seen Spider-Man fighting and strategizing for more than five decades now across several different runs, with many other writers and against many enemies. As a result, there is so much information about Spider-Man as a fighter and strategist that you can’t pick him when compared to Black Spider because the former has been fleshed out a lot more.
Therefore, we will go with Spider-Man in this section since we have more information to evaluate him.
Winner: Spider-Man
Physical strength
Physical strength refers to how much they can lift, their fighting styles, and their knowledge and experience when it comes to hand-to-hand combat. This section relates to how would these two characters fair if it was down to hand-to-hand combat and they didn’t have any powers.
In that regard, and considering this context, Spider-Man must be the winner. This is only down to one main argument: the fact that he has super strength. This is something that gives him a monumental edge and is going to allow him to get the upper hand over Black Spider.
Let’s put this out there: both characters are having a brawl and punching each other as hard as they can. While the Black Spider is a dangerous fighter in his own right, the reality is that Spider-Man would get much more damage done with fewer punches because his strength is off the charts. Of course, super-powered villains can withstand this, but it would be way too much for a regular human.
Winner: Spider-Man
Final Thoughts
Spider-Man is one of the best-written and more developed characters in the history of comics, with many different abilities that make him a capable fighter and dangerous foe to fight against. This is not meant to undermine Black Spider, who can be a dangerous fighter in his own right, but he is no match compared to Spider-Man, as they are not even on the same level.
Therefore, we will go with Spider-Man winning this battle. Let us know your thoughts.
