Cyberpunk 2077 Review

Is CD Projekt Red’s Futuristic Open World Game a Flop or Success?

CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 was arguably one of the most awaited games of the past few years. Unfortunately, fans had to wait several years for the game before it was released on December 10, 2020. The Witcher 3 by the same development team, CD Projekt Red’s made everyone believe that the developers could replicate something similar with Cyberpunk 2077, which resulted in a huge pre-release hype. But was all of this hype worth it? Continue reading below as we dive deeper into whether or not Cyberpunk 2077 has been a flop or a success.

Is Cyberpunk 2077 a Flop or a Success?

From a Sales Perspective

When you get down to judging the game based on its sales, there is absolutely no way that one can call Cyberpunk 2077 a flop. The game had one of the most successful pre-releases of all time, thanks to pre-order sales. Millions bought the game through pre-orders, and millions bought it after its release. In terms of sales, Cyberpunk 2077 was a huge success.

Many will tell you that this isn’t entirely the case because many players received a refund for their copy of Cyberpunk 2077. This is somewhat correct; however, these refunds didn’t hinder the overall financial success too much, as CD Projekt Red still earned millions thanks to Cyberpunk 2077. The game was a huge success when you look at things from a business point of view.

From the Public’s Perspective

Not many people feel Cyberpunk 2077 lived up to the hype it received. Many had expected it to be one of the greatest games ever and to rival even the Witcher 3, which the same developer made. This wasn’t the case at all, though. The initial gameplay of Cyberpunk 2077 was terrible. Even if the concept was intriguing and unique, the entire experience was ruined thanks to many bugs, glitches, and performance issues. This was the reason for the previously mentioned refunds of the game.

While the ratings from critics were decent enough, the general public thought Cyberpunk 2077 to be mediocre, especially those who played the game on PS4. Heck, there were even glitches that impacted Xbox One players. So from the perspective of the players who had waited almost eight years for a masterpiece, the game certainly did flop. CD Projekt Red is steadily releasing patches and updates to make the game more playable and less buggy, but that likely won’t be enough to save it in the eyes of a good chunk of players, including the worldscoolest. How about you? Are you still a fan?
